Materials & Sustainability

The awards are 3D-printed by Fab.Pub using PLA bioplastic, a material composed of fermented sugars and wood. PLA is an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastics. This ensures the awards are both striking and environmentally conscious.

Fabrication Process

While Mamou-Mani led the design, Fab.Pub oversaw the fabrication process. Using advanced 3D printing, Fab.Pub realised the intricate woven textures designed by Mamou-Mani, achieving precision and excellence. The parametric design allowed for the creation of complex, repeating patterns, enhancing both aesthetic value and structural integrity.

Symbolism and Impact

The Fortnum & Mason Award is more than just an accolade; it symbolizes the innovative fusion of tradition and modernity. Designed by Mamou-Mani and fabricated by Fab.Pub, it stands as a testament to how biomaterials, such as those derived from sugars, can be transformed into something precious, sustainable, and celebratory.

The Concept

The award, designed by Mamou-Mani, draws inspiration from Fortnum & Mason’s iconic wicker hamper. The form features an array of champagne flutes, symbolising celebration. These flutes are decorated with a finely detailed woven texture, created through parametric design. This design approach marries the brand’s heritage with a modern and sustainable interpretation.
