About the Project

This particular endeavour was much more than just a project for us. We have been invited into the home of our CEO, Arthur Mamou-Mani and his wife Sandy to help them transform an old building into a sustainable oasis in the heart of London. It was an exercise in harmony and finding a common language that represent our values of circularity, well-being and innovation. Through the use of renewable materials like clay, fermented sugar, wood, London brick, and innovative biomaterials and a close collaboration with our partner Fab.Pub, this circular dream home came to life.

Mamou-Mani served as the architect for the complete reconfiguration of a rooftop flat in South London. The project included securing planning permission from Southwark Council for a basement extension. This extra space added a valuable 10m² which turned the box room into a spacious second bedroom. This extra space was cleverly excavated from the basement, creating additional room for the second bedroom. A standout feature of the design is the custom staircase, which was fabricated and built by Mamou-Mani’s sister company, Fab.Pub, showcasing their integrated approach to architecture and fabrication.

The Concept

Concept of the Circular House in London

The Circular House in London is a testament to sustainable living, innovation, and harmony. This project was more than just a renovation; it was a transformation of an old building into a sustainable oasis in the heart of London. The concept revolves around:

  • Circularity:

Emphasizing the use of renewable materials such as clay, fermented sugar, wood, London brick, and innovative biomaterials. This approach ensures minimal waste and promotes recycling and reusability.

  • Well-being:

Creating a living space that enhances the well-being of its inhabitants. The design focuses on natural light, ventilation, and the use of non-toxic materials to create a healthy living environment.

  • Innovation:

Collaborating with partners like Fab.Pub to integrate cutting-edge technologies and materials. This includes the use of digital fabrication techniques to create bespoke elements that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The Circular House stands as a testament to the possibilities of sustainable architecture and the positive impact it can have on urban living.
