About the Project
Set at the heart of Paris on the iconic Place de la Concorde, Concordia is a landmark installation designed for the Photoclimat biennale, an open-air exhibition dedicated to socially and environmentally engaged photography. The project invites the public to experience photography not only as a visual medium but as part of an architectural journey rooted in connection, reflection, and environmental consciousness.
Created by Mamou-Mani, the structure builds upon his approach to digital craft, geometry, and public participation. Designed as a pavilion that blurs the line between sculpture and space, Concordia transforms a historic urban setting into a contemporary gathering point. It celebrates art in the public realm and encourages new conversations between architecture, storytelling, and civic identity.

The Concept
The design of Concordia draws from the formal language of tower structures, reinterpreted through the spatial and symbolic principles of Galaxia, Mamou-Mani’s renowned temple for Burning Man. At its centre stands a vertical timber tower, flanked by two sculptural wings that extend outward to embrace the surrounding square. These wings are shaped to support large-scale photographic works, creating a semi-enclosed gallery open to the city.
Looped rattan elements wrap around the wings, evoking the delicate yet expressive plumes of a bird. From a key vantage point in Place de la Concorde, the pavilion aligns with and frames the historic Obelisk, embedding the structure within the city’s architectural narrative. Suspended within the central tower is a dramatic chandelier that crowns the installation and adds a focal point of light and celebration. The structure is supported by reclaimed tree trunks to resist wind loads and built using a timber frame, reinforcing the use of natural, tactile materials in an urban context.
