The project features three suspended lighting fixtures that showcase an intricate, teardrop-shaped lattice structure. These pieces, now the centrepiece of the chalet, are expertly crafted using flat-printed planes that were notched together to form the complex lattice design. This method of 3D printing flat components and assembling them with precision aligns with our ongoing research from previous projects Briar and Conifera, where we explored similar construction techniques.

Each of the three modules is made up of 57 individual components, all printed flat and assembled using notches to create the intricate structure. This detailed assembly process not only enhances the piece’s complexity but also showcases the innovation behind flat printing and modular design. The result is a highly sophisticated, fully 3D-printed lighting solution that complements the chalet’s luxurious interiors.

Aderfi’s design not only highlights modern lighting design but also pays homage to antique chandeliers with its patinated brass-like finish. A specialised formula of PLA and colour enhancers, developed in-house, gives the lighting fixtures their unique metallic sheen. When illuminated, the suspended lighting glows warmly from within, casting an inviting light that adds character to the chalet’s high-end interiors.

This custom lighting installation represents the perfect fusion of modern craftsmanship and traditional luxury, making it a stunning feature of the chalet’s living room. Whether viewed up close or from across the room, the intricate latticework and beautiful illumination offer an unforgettable visual experience. Aderfi not only meets the functional needs of the space but also elevates the chalet’s interior design to new heights, perfectly aligning with the client’s vision for a striking, luxurious aesthetic.

The Concept

The concept behind Aderfi draws heavily from the rich history of ornate chandeliers, but it pushes the boundaries of design by utilising cutting-edge 3D printing technology. This lighting installation reflects the blend of classic elegance with contemporary innovation. Each component, designed digitally and crafted meticulously by hand, gives Aderfi its stunning visual complexity.

Inspired by vintage chandeliers and luxury design, the lighting pieces are finished with a brass look, adding a timeless yet modern touch to the chalet’s interiors. This concept not only honours traditional craftsmanship but also embraces the future of design through the use of sustainable 3D printing materials.

Aderfi: The Vortex of Fire is more than just a lighting fixture—it’s a statement of art and innovation. It seamlessly integrates modern technology with the luxury and charm of traditional lighting design, creating a mesmerising focal point for this Swiss chalet’s living room. Whether for a private residence or a prestigious project, Aderfi exemplifies the best in custom luxury lighting.
