About the Project
Briar is our Scottish Rose, a large-scale 3D printed chandelier that we recently completed in a beautiful refurbished gothic church for Virgin Hotels in Edinburgh, Scotland. Briar is inspired by stone tracery , an old method of crafting ornate, curvilinear window frames in cathedrals. We used 3D printing and parametric design to bring this art to the third dimension. We used a mixture of PLA polylactic acid, a bioplastic made from fermented sugar, and brass powder, celebrating ancient craft whilst also empowering new ways of circular thinking.
