About the Project
Rive Gauche is a retail interior project in Saint Petersburg, Russia, completed by Mamou-Mani in 2016. Designed for the opening of the cosmetics retailer’s premium store, the installation brings moving image into two architectural features: the escalator entrance and the main column.
Flexible, curved LED screens allow animation and video to become part of the interior. The project explores how digital display can shape the experience of arriving in a shop and moving through it.
LED screens as architectural elements
Mamou-Mani worked with Street Co, engineers and suppliers of LED screens, to design the two installations. At the escalator, the display accompanies the route into the store. Around the main column, curved screens turn an existing building element into a changing visual feature.
Both elements use animation and video content to bring movement to the retail setting. The collaboration connects interior design with the technical requirements of flexible LED displays, creating an experience organised around the store’s entrance and central space.
