Adaptive Transport Machine – Lima
1 August 2017 - 13 August 2017£695
The Visiting School will investigate the contemporary emerging metropolis of Lima in South America blurring the boundaries between infrastructure / architecture and mechanical domains.
The 10 days workshop will use architectural solutions and new technologies to discover and create new means of transport at different levels: public & private domains and involving land, water and air.
Intelligent transportation systems represent a necessary transition into a new era of communicating and transporting goods and humans. Centralized and decentralized systems will cover innovative solutions and Wi-Fi applications.
Visionary exercises by means of research, mapping, design technology and fabrication processes participate in the entire infrastructure body that will cover the Lima terrain to obtain a faster moving network of differentiated routes on extensive simulation. These exercises will be team based and the findings will be presented to a panel of international guests experts. Digitalizing on parametric design will be part of the learning agenda together with drawing, 3d-modelling, and physical fabrication.
The Visiting School programme will also feature a series of lectures by local and international architects, which will be open to the public.
The resulting experiments including physical models, and/or renderings and/or animations will be displayed in an exhibition during the architectural festival in Lima.
Students will develop skills in parametric modelling using Rhino and Grasshopper and gain an understanding on traffic congestion and self-organizing bodies. They will also obtain a certificate of completion from the AA.
The AA Visiting School requires a fee of £695 per participant, which includes a £60 visiting membership fee.
Fees do not include flights or accommodation, but accommodation options can be advised. Students need to bring their own laptops, digital equipment and model making tools. Please ensure this equipment is covered by your own insurance as the AA takes no responsibility for items lost or stolen at the workshop.
The workshop is open to current architecture and design students, phd candidates and young professionals. Software Requirements: Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino (Grasshopper / Python plugins), Autodesk, 3d Max, Maya
